Class Study Question: Why did Jesus require His disciples to be with Him to the end of His ministry while Moses and Paul taught their followers by writings that they received through the Holy Spirit ? Jesus had power to transfer directly to the disciples. After His resurrection, He called His disciples and breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Ghost” John 20:22. He later said, “Tarry in the city of Jerusalem, until you are endued with power from on high”. Luke 24:49. Moses did not transfer power directly to his people. The Holy Spirit’s glory was “on him” as he reflected the light from the glory of God Himself but that reflected light faded with time. Moses, inspired by the Holy Spirit, wrote the Word of God to guide and instruct his people. Paul was “taken up into a third heaven” and was blinded temporarily by the experience. Although the indwelling Holy Spirit was in Paul after the Damascus Road experience, he did not transfer power directly to others. Their belief in Jesus Christ from hearing the Word of God inspired in Paul’s writings allowed them to be filled with the Holy Spirit.
